The whole world is trying to win, working to be the best, fighting to have the most, striving to be number one. It’s what damages friendships, divides families, splits churches, destroys communities, and devastates countries.
But what if a whole group of people decided to take last place… on purpose?
In Mark 9 Jesus’ disciples get caught arguing about which one of them is the greatest. Who knows what they meant. The greatest disciple, the greatest friend, the greatest singer… but each one was sure he was the greatest. When Jesus entered into the conversation he said this,
“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
What Jesus is saying here is that if you want to be the best at something that matters to God you need to be the best at serving everyone else.
We have to learn to intentionally put ourselves in Last Place.
This isn’t just for the disciples.
This is for you and me.
This is for today.
What if as Christians we decided to take Jesus seriously and intentionally decided to take last place in everything we did.
What would that look like? How would that change things? Could it make an impact?
Jesus set a standard of what it looks like for us to live in last place and he has left us here to represent him. As his followers we must discover what it means for us to live every minute of every day as Last Place People.
LastPlacePeople.com exists to call Christ followers to live in last place. You will find conversations about what that looks like, practical examples of how it’s possible, and ideas about how you can start living in last place right where you live!
Check back often and join us as we become Last Place People.
